HRS Principal Hydrogeologist Dave Lipson gave a presentation on the topic of “Forensic Hydrogeology” at the January 2020 CGWA Luncheon.
Forensic Hydrogeology is the application of hydrogeologic science and engineering principles to matters of law. It is commonly used in civil matters and water cases, and is governed by the legal standards of admissible evidence and expert testimony.
During the presentation, Dr. Lipson discussed why Forensic Hydrogeology needs to be defined as a separate discipline within the broader spectrum of forensic sciences, and he introduced the legal and scientific standards that Forensic Hydrogeologists need to abide by in lawsuits.
